A large male gray wolf (Canis lupus ) left this footprint
at Beaver Lake in Yellowstone National Park on
July 17, 2003. The wolf was probably from Swan Lake
Pack. The footprint was made by the front foot in soft
mud. While male tracks are normally wide, the speed
of the galloping wolf and the weight in the shoulders
and head caused the toes to spread even further.
This animal weighed about 130 lbs.
